  1. You will have to fill out an application. You have two options for applying: fill out the online form or download one and send it to musicevents@uea.ac.uk. Applications must be submitted by Thursday, May 11, 6 p.m. (application deadline).
  2. You must record yourself performing music, upload it to YouTube (unlisted) either, and then send the link to musicevents@uea.ac.uk by 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2023. You must make three distinct recordings with a maximum combined length of ten minutes. The first two of these should be solo compositions that you feel represent you at your finest; the third should be a little unaccompanied study or folk song.

The ASCAP Foundation Irving Caesar Scholarships

These scholarships were created to honor Irving Caesar, a prolific and well-respected lyricist who over the course of his long career wrote lyrics for hundreds of songs, including “Tea for Two,” “Swanee,” “Animal Crackers in My Soup,” and the children’s educational song series, Songs of Safety and Songs of Friendship. The awardees are chosen by the Third Street Music School Settlement faculty in New York City.

BMI Future Jazz Master Scholarship

A young jazz star pursuing a graduate degree in jazz performance, jazz studies, or a related field is given the BMI Future Jazz Master Scholarship each year. The National Endowment for the Arts lifetime achievement recognition program, the NEA Jazz Masters Fellowship, inspired the establishment of the award in 2015. Recent years have seen the $5,000 prize awarded during the annual BMI/NEA celebration of Jazz Master recipients. NEA Jazz Masters Ahmad Jamal, Jack DeJohnette, Jimmy Heath, and Ron Carter have all served as program judges in the past.

Scholarship Requirements

  • Current full-time or part-time college or university students in the United States. Students who have received acceptance letters from American colleges or universities for upcoming enrolment are NOT qualified
  • As of January 29, 2021, between the ages of 17 and 24.
  • Potential first-time winners of the competition: Previous winners of the BMI Future Jazz Master Scholarship (other than Honorable Mention) are not allowed to enter the competition.

Application Guidelines

  • Three recent performance recordings (MP3 or MP4a files). These performed works must all contain at least one original piece. Age, style, instrumentation, and voice are not constrained in any way.
  • A track listing including each recording’s composer, performance, and title information.
  • A chart or score for any submitted recording that is an original piece of work.
